The power cuts are getting in the way of blogging!
Annoyance!
After having spent the last month living in Nepal I thought it was about time I wrote a blog!
It's a bit daunting though as I have experienced too many things to even know where to begin!!!!
After having spent an amazing day of travelling to/wandering around London with my wonderful boyfriend, Matt, we had to make the journey to the airport !
The hardest thing about that day was saying bye to matt and knowing that I wouldn't see him for what felt like an AGE!!
After a nice goodbye and a few tears I joined the other volunteers to begin the journey!!
The aeroplane-ride was amazing but somehow I slept funny on my nostril and it's still not right now haha!
When we arrived in Delhi airport , customs were WELL strict! They took my extremely blunt scissors off me and nearly made some of the vols miss the flight!! I thought that there would be a representative or someone there to tell us what to do, but we were left to it and got there in the end!
I had my first 'squat toilet' experience in that airport , and my first 'gender inequality issue' on the flight to Kathmandu, where no girls were offered beer or other such things!!
It was strange to feel so over-looked!
When we arrived in Kathmandu airport , we collected our luggage and filled out some forms about visas and went to find SOMEONE who was anything to do with Platform2!!!!
We went to the entrance and saw a sign, but loads of people were surrounding us and trying to take our luggage off us/begging/trying to get tips for carrying our bags/etc.. It was a bit overwhelming and really confusing cos we didn't know who was who!!!!
When we got to the bus, we loaded the luggage on the roof/in the middle of the bus and then were welcomed, Nepali style ! We met Khyam and Bal (supervisers of Sirutar and Lamatar - I'm in Sirutar!) and began the journey to the hotel.
I can't even describe that journey!!! It was mad!!!!!!!
As we drove along, we saw extreme poverty instantly!!
Also, we recognised that the road system is completely different in that there are no Also, w e recognised that the road system is completely different in that there are no traffic lights/general regulations apart from the odd traffic warden who stands in between a million pipping cars/bikes/buses/rickshaws! ....and on top of that there was the odd cow/goat wandering around in the middle of the road!!!
I wrote that ages ago and the power went out...... so gonna start a new one!!!
Bye for now!
