After contemplating writing blogs for quite some time I've decided to take the plunge!
It's a little weird to think that people may (or may not!) read my thoughts.
Once I jet off to Nepal (which is the 14th poorest country in the world!!!) for ten weeks I want to keep folk from home updated - especially my mum! - on what we're doing and how things are out there (with my hour of internet access per week!!!) so I thought that this would be a good start....
I'm going to be staying with a nepalese famliy in Kathmandu Valley (13km outside of the capital city - Kathmandu). It's all a bit surreal at the moment and doesn't seem real, but I'm going in exactly four weeks with about 11 other volunteers. I'm going through a government-funded (DFID) programme called Platform2 (http://www.myplatform2.com/) and will be building a high school, teaching children English, playing sport and working with the community. It hasn't quite sunk in yet, but I'm soooooooo excited to get stuck in!!!!
I'm going to miss my marvelous friends and family.. and how I'm going to cope with not seeing Matt for two and a half months, I don't know!!
I've just bitten a nail off typing that!
I'm having a leaving do on the 26th of Feb, so if people don't come I will cry, but if they do it will be lovely.
I've had a right nice week this week. Spent the weekend in Leeds with lovely Matt for valentines (I won't go in to details!) but it was goooooooood; had a jab on monday which wasnt so good (The dreaded MMR, dun dun durrrm!); spent Tuesday in Liverpool with my wonderful mum buying things for Nepal, browsing nice littel shops and buying nice insence/tea with my very nice (and bloody funny) cousin Mary; spent Weds with Shelley talking about interesting things then came home to a parcel from Danni with a letter and some Wonka 'Rainbow Nerds' (Mmmmmm!!); then today I gave my weekly guitar lesson to Dan and saw how much he has improved (what a good feeling!!!) ..I'm teaching him to play the first song I learnt: Bob Dylan's 'Blowin in the wind'. And then I've spent the evening drinking tea and chatting away with Sophie and now written my first blog.
Excellent!
So, I reckon that's enough for one blogg!!!
If you've read this, thank you for your time.
